My Stella & Dot Story

image

Hi Everyone!

You may or may not have already heard, but I’ve just recently decided to (along with my good friend, Christine Myette) become an Independent Stylist with Stella & Dot!

It all started with…well, to be perfectly honest, I was desperate for a little free bling! And you have to agree that they have some truly beautiful jewelry!!

So…I hosted my very first Stella & Dot party at my home back in July. I was pretty scared that no one would come! But, happily, a few of my girlfriends did, and OMG, it was SO MUCH FUN!!!  Honestly. I really can’t stress that part enough. It had been a long work week, and it turned out that it was just what we all needed… to kick back with a few other women, have a glass or two of wine, a lot of laughs and try on all the gorgeous accessories that the stylist had brought over.

Stella & Dot is so amazing, that they literally have something for everyone! All their jewelry is nickel/lead free and available at a variety of price points. They have bold, exciting statement pieces, as well as smaller, more delicate/subtle pieces. They also have beautiful, functional bags, wallets, & scarves. And there were no high-pressured sales tactics – just an emphasis on having fun and feeling glamorous!

I ended up having about 7 people at my party and had pretty average party sales. The bonus for me of hosting the party was not only relaxing and having fun with some girlfriends, but I earned some half price discounts and also credit for free product! I was in bling heaven and totally even more in love with Stella & Dot! So much so that I decided that I would try my hand at representing their line, myself! My motivation is to share the glamour, fun and joy of their beautiful accessories with others.

Do I think women need jewelry and accessories to be beautiful?  Hell, no. But, let me tell you…there’s something exciting about trying on a new piece of jewelry that you may not have previously considered…how it makes you feel. It makes me feel glamorous…and even a little giddy! And who doesn’t want a little fun and glamour in their lives?!  I sure do, because it feels awesome!  The right accessories are like the icing on the cake!

I found out first hand that to host a party, you really don’t have to do anything too strenuous. The easiest way is to just send out the email invitation (prepared for you by your stylist) to friends, co-workers, family, neighbors and anyone you can think of who likes to laugh, have fun and feel glamorous! For my own party, I put out a few light snacks and chilled a bottle of wine. Friends even showed up with wine!

Also, you don’t even have to host the party at your home. You could choose to host an office party, or a party at another venue of your choice. You could even host a party for someone else – for example a new bride or bride-to-be. What a great gift to make the bride the host so that she can reap the hostess benefits!

And did you know…you could even host a ‘virtual party’ – which is basically an on-line catalogue party. You just email all your friends with the link to your party site – provided to you by your stylist. The site has the all the accessories, detailed descriptions, prices, etc… (This is also a really great option for anyone who is having a party in their home, and has guest who may want to attend, however, are unable to be there (ie. they are geographically too far away).  Guests can simply log on and shop on-line under your party URL.

A virtual party works basically the same way as the other parties – however with the only drawback being that you don’t get the benefit of myself and Christine – live and in person with all our gorgeous samples with which to style you and for you to play with!

SO…  If you would be at all interested in hosting a party to enjoy some time with a few friends and score yourself some free bling, please let me know and we’d be happy to drop by! We literally have loads of super-awesome-incredibly-gorgeous samples for you and your friends to try on. Here is my Independent Stylist website: www.stelladot.com/sites/lorinhalfyard

An Ode to Cows…

My ode to cows.

I’m an omnivore – so this post will probably not make me very popular with vegans or vegetarians.

However, while being an omnivore, I have a lot of respect for cows and feel the need to give them their due props.  Low on the food chain, they are the quiet, gentle creatures who are the most giving of all animals on the planet.  Every part of a cow is used by humans.  Their skin for clothing, rugs, pillows, and furniture.  They give us a plethora of dairy products, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt, and their bodies give us protein like steak and ground beef.

It’s no wonder they are revered in certain cultures! I think they are quite miraculous and respect them for all they give to humanity.  Just sayin’.

My Personal Fav – The Hazelnut Martini

I disovered the Hazelnut Martini at my favorite Halifax Restaurant & Oyster Bar several years ago.  I loved it so much, that I learned how to make it on my own at home.  It’s so good, I wanted to share the recipe!

MartiniSipping one last Christmas – a decadent treat!

Besides the liquor (listed below), you will need a lemon slice and a small shallow dish of shaved chocolate.

First, rim your martini glass – you can do this with either the lemon slice (or some of the liquor).  Then, dip the wet rim in the shaved chocolate.

In a martini shaker, add:

  • Ice
  • 1 oz Polar Ice Vodka
  • 1 oz Trader Vic’s Macademia Nut Liquor
  • 1 oz Frangelico Liquor

Shake all ingredients, then strain into the chocolate rimmed martini glass.  It’s so delicious!  And, P.S.: It’s another one of the things that give me joy!

The Things That Give Me Joy

Some days can be tough. I get tired.  Or I have a rough day at work.  Or having to work full time is competing with (and usually winning against) having  too many domestic things to do.

But on those occasional days, I look at my Joy List.  I love lists.  They keep me focused.  They keep me in the present or they help me look ahead with hope or anticipation of things I want to do and eventually will do.

One particular list, my Joy List, is of some of very small things – things that cost nothing, nor take any time at all, really.  They are just a few simple things that make me happy and give me the most profound joy.  They are things that I do not and could not, take for granted.  For I am well aware of how everything can change in the blink of an eye and life as you know it is turned upside down – for better or worse.

Each time I experience, even for a moment, something on my list, my soul – my entire being,  is filled with gratitude and peace.  And no matter what I’m doing, my body inadvertently stops, and takes a moment or so to just breathe it all in.  Pure joy.

Here are a few things on my Joy List:

  1. Getting into a freshly made bed with crisp, clean sheets.
  2. The first sip of coffee in the morning.
  3. The smell of honeysuckle.
  4. The smells of sandalwood & patchouli.
  5. Gazing at the miracle who is my son.
  6. My cat, purring.
  7. The sounds of a harp or the bagpipes.
  8. Sipping red wine at it’s perfect temperature.
  9. Sitting in front of a fireplace with a cup of Earl Grey tea.
  10. The feel of washing my hair clean after a sweaty run.
  11. The smell of the air in the Fall (chimney smoke mingled with crispy leaves)
  12. Hugs.

Really good advice. I’m a new (very sporadic) blogger and I tend to get bogged down in how busy life can get. But you’re so right – engaging in conversations is key.
